Thursday Class Nature's Palette: An Eco-Dyeing Exploration
Tiffany Goff-Smith
Mixed Media Mess Maker
Eco Dyeing Class Description
Eco-dyeing is all about capturing the essence of nature on paper and fabric. Co-creating with nature can give us a stack of goodies that we can use in any of our creative projects, from handmade clothes and home goods to hand bound journals and collaged canvases or wall hangings. Tiffany will share a wealth of information based on her personal process and experimentation with plants, food, and other natural sources for dyeing. You'll leave with enough information to get you started in crafting your own natural dying and printing projects. Tiffany will also will share some of her favorite dye and "eco dying"(bundle printing) options and alternatives.
In this class, students will spend the day dyeing and steaming papers, using “bundles” to create yummy results, then unwrapping them to see what goodness they've created with nature as the muse! Students can also bring organic fabrics, like silk, cotton, linen or wool, to make extra fabric textures to incorporate into their bundles.
Experience Level: This session is for all skill levels.

SATURDAY Make & Take Gelatin Plate Session Description
Gel Plate Printing is all about play, serendipity, and surrender. The process is freeing and fun and the results are often difficult to reproduce -- that's why it's also known as monoprinting. The prints we pull from the plate are often one-of-a-kind and unique. Even when we use the same colors, same stencils, same tools, the results are always surprising and full of personality. In this fast paced and interactive workshop, Tiffany will take participants through a series of fun techniques while sharing her personal process and ideas for making tons of prints on paper, fabric, and found materials. Yes!! She's also going to teach you how to do image transfers using the gel plate -- this is one of her favorite ways to use the plate. Towards the end of class she will teach students how to turn the papers and printed goodies into a beautiful hand bound journal. Students will leave with a stack of printing yumminess, a handmade journal, and lots of ideas for years of monoprinting magic.
Experience Level: This make & take will be open to all students on Saturday.
Supply List: Bring papers and fabrics that you love and if you have favorite paint colors bring those too. Kit Fee: $15 USD Your kit fee will be due to the teacher at the start of class. It is easier if you bring cash in the exact amount of the fee.
About Tiffany: Tiffany will tell you that art changed her life. She always loved crafty things and fiddled with just about everything you can think of. She grew up with artists all around her, from a mom who could do anything (she never seemed to struggle or need to practice), to a brother who plays any musical instrument he tries. Then there was Tiffany, for her, art (and anything creative) seemed hard! So she retreated and told herself she didn't have any talent. Except for talking! It took some time, a person or two inspiring her, and of course the discovery of art journaling to bring us the Tiffany we know today. From forming beads for jewelry to painting on cardboard for 100 days in a row, Tiffany channels life’s challenges into painty messes. She says she is flabbergasted and humbled that people want to learn from her and honored that she gets to share her journey with so many other creatives. Tiffany is the founder of The Ugly Art Club, the creator of more than 400 Youtube videos, and the innovative mind behind Southern Gal's Designs. Follow and connect with Tiffany on Instagram.
