Class Description
Playful art is truly a blessing to the heart. This class is all about playful and childlike exploration that will make your heart happy. Come join Cindy Gilstrap as she shares her love of taking inspiration from what she sees around her, and turning it into a playful, quirky, colorful creation.
Together we will gather inspiration from the nature around the lake and take what we gather back to the classroom and put a playful colorful twist on it. Playing with shapes, lines, and color...we will turn our exploration into a bright colorful mixed media collage all while embracing a playful mindset and letting our inner child have fun! We will combine paint, paper, fabric, hand stitching and more to create a collage on fabric.
The finished collage can then be taken home and used for a wallhanging, journal cover, or anything your inner child can come up with. (Cindy will share examples of what can be done with the finished collage.) The pieces we create will make a great keepsake to remember our blessed time together at the lake.
Experience Level: Everyone is welcome. Just bring your inner child to play and enjoy the process.
Class Supply List:
• Apron (optional)
• Craft paint in your favorite colors (no more than 6 colors)
• A few different size paint brushes
• A container for water
• Scraps of any type of patterned paper from your stash (vintage, new, handmade)
• Any small fabric scraps from your stash you would like to play with.
• Black and white embroidery thread
• Thimble (optional)
• Scissors
• Black permanent pen or black paint pen
• Pencil
Class Kit Fee: $25
Your kit fee will be due at the beginning of class. Please bring exact cash amount to make it easier.
About Cindy:
Cindy Gilstrap is a mixed media artist and loves gathering with others and inspiring playful creativity. She teaches in person and online art journal classes with the focus being childlike play. Through her art journals she has found inspiration in combining paint, fabric, paper, stitching, and more. Cindy loves vintage things and has developed a style of combining bright colors and her love of vintage. Her favorite way to create is in handmade junk journals. She loves keeping the rule of “there are no rules” in the forefront of her creativity and encourages others to do the same.
Cindy loves spending time with her family in Texas. She and her husband have 2 children and are recent empty nesters with 3 pups that keep them laughing. Cindy has a working studio in her hometown where she teaches classes and gathers with other creatives. She also loves to shop at thrift stores, flea markets, and antiques stores and is always on the lookout for things she can use in her art or to decorate with in unique ways.
