Class Title Meet Your Muse: A Mixed Media Portrait Class
Deanna Strachan Wilson
Mixed Media Artist
Class Description
Have you ever thought about where inspiration comes from? What is the spark, hunger, or passion that moves you to want to bring something tangible into this world? In her book, “Big Magic”, Elizabeth Gilbert talks about ideas being “disembodied, energetic life forms” that are driven to be made manifest. In this class, we will “Meet Our Muse” using mixed media to create a visual image of that which inspires us. Students will learn my method of creating stylized watercolor portraits using reference photos and a variety of water-soluble materials. Using collage and inspiration from the nature around us, we will add in botanicals to create clothing and/or a headdress.
Experience Level: Some experience drawing faces is helpful but, due to the stylized nature of the portrait, not required.

About Deanna I live in Eugene, Oregon with my husband and two cats. I work full-time helping people find jobs and housing. Because I work full-time, I need to create in small chunks of time. Watercolor and other water-soluble materials work perfect for this. I love using my sketchbook to play and have fun without the pressure of creating a masterpiece every time. I am inspired by the world around me and often paint my emotions as witnessed in various watercolor faces as well as in the light and whimsical works of art. Momentum and ideas come from each small piece I create which sometimes leads to something larger. My goal is to do something artistic as often as possible, keep the energy and ideas going, and learn, share, and grow with my art community.
