Purpose, Poise & Poetry: Anchoring the Voice through Creative Writing With so much going on in the world, it’s imperative to navigate our internal landscapes mindfully and learn tools for self-empowerment and fortitude. With a focus on self-expression as self care, participants are encouraged to reflect on times they have anchored themselves through creativity, practiced tenacity, and found pathways forward in challenging times. In this judgement-free workshop, we will look to inspirational quotes and powerful poems, utilize writing prompts and exercises, and create personalized free verse poems to activate our voices, honor our purpose, and cultivate creative poise. Come with an open mind, leave with an expanded self! Experience Level – All levels welcomed. No writing experience necessary. Supply List:

About Gina: Of African American, Eastern European Jewish and Muscogee Creek Native American descent, Dr. Gina Loring is a poet, singer, songwriter, screenwriter, activist, and creative writing professor. As guest artist of the American Embassy under the Obama administration, she facilitated writing workshops and performed her poetry and music in over ten countries, and toured nationwide with Norman Lear’s Declare Yourself project. Her personal essays and poetry have been featured in As If Magazine, The Root, Chime for Change, Angels Flight/Literary West, Thrive Global, and For Harriet. With a BA from Spelman College, an MFA from Antioch University Los Angeles, and a Doctorate in Education for which she studied at the University of Southern California and Clark Atlanta University, she teaches writing workshops with incarcerated teens and youth transitioning out of trafficking. She was featured on Jane Fonda’s Fire Drill Fridays, Rosario Dawson’s The Assembly, two De La Soul albums, two seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry, and has been commissioned to write poems honoring Quincy Jones and Prince.
