Layers of Me: A Collaged Assemblage Experience with DeeDee

Class Description
It's Human Statement TIME.
Make a one-of-a-kind assemblage piece all about what YOU stand for as a human being and creative. In this project-centered workshop we will build an UmWowStudio EXCLUSIVE chipboard box that features staggered panels meant to represent the beautiful, chaotic, wild, lovable, messy, intense, soft, MIXED MATCHED layers that make us who we are. It'll be interactive & we'll work with techniques like collage, using 3d elements, image transfers, layering effectively, and more. Basically, we are making a stand-alone statement piece that screams "HEY, THIS IS WHO I AM!"
In a world that already wants to fragment us, we can take control of what and how we compartmentalize the various parts of who we are. From our past, our present, and even our future, we will build a box filled with all the layers of our being. The potential for healing is as infinite as the items we collect, construct, and combine.
Join DeeDee Catron in this “roll up your sleeves” workshop designed to help you reconnect to the wondrous assortments of mish-mash things that make you the amazing person that you are. Project images are NOT identical to the one you’ll make but has similar elements.

Bio : DeeDee is the owner & creative director of UmWowStudio, a mixed media supply company.
She adores designing innovative products & sharing ideas on how to use them.
She is a mixed media artist with a flair towards vintage ephemera collage and mark making. She can be recognized for her enthusiasm in all things black and white, with some neutrals thrown in for good measure. She is an avid teacher and instructor and loves a great live demo! DeeDee is super happy showcasing supplies from her online mixed media shop, UmWowStudio. She enjoys the challenge of product design work, creating unique items for other artists to use, such as chipboard shapes, book bones, art tape & much more. DeeDee also shares her knowledge & encourages a good discussion about art fundamentals, while dabbling in many forms and media. She has a gift for sharing her “raw art brain” as she works through her art pieces, either live or recorded, allowing her genuine creativity to show through.

Supply List :
- Scissors
- #2 Pencil
- Wet adhesive (I prefer fabri-tac, but anything similar)
- Glue stick
- Needle & embroidery threads in favorite colors (just a small amount)
- Permanent pens (in black or other favorite colors)
- Paint markers or small bottles of paint in your favorite colors
- Paint brushes (one 1/2 in - 1 inch wide, one small round,)
- Please consider bringing things that MEAN something to you, like:
- A few of your favorite scraps of ribbons, fabrics, collage papers (vintage / handmade / magazine) Nothing more than a sandwich ziploc bag's worth.
- Small (SMALL) embellish type items, bingo marker numbers, feathers, tiny knick knacks, beads, buttons, etc.
- A laser jet printed image of yourself - you can get one done at a copy place, a public library, 2x3 - 3x4 inch size, color or black/white is fine.
NOTE: Students who register for this class will get one other option for how to get their laser jet printed images.
